taft gardens residency
The nine-month Taft Gardens Artist Research Residency is giving me time to be in the preserve while I develop a children’s picture book and related artworks. This story is rooted in noticing, which means the setting has to be more than scenery. Through repeated visits, I’m listening to flora, fauna, light, weather, and textures. I’m also wondering about how landscape shapes experience: what we notice, how we move, and what becomes possible.
The images below are field sketches—on-site notes used to gather sensory detail and ground the story world before final illustrations begin.
